A New Year, A New Adventure

February 3, 2013 by Dragonfly Diva

It’s a new year, and with each one comes new adventure.  Wrapping up 2012 meant wrapping up three years of Grad School.  Three years of working full-time, being a Mom, a wife and a student all at the same time.  It was an exhilarating, rewarding three years, that I will treasure forever.  It was also exhausting, stressful and jam-packed full of work, and more work.  So now, here we are in 2013, and with one mid-life adventure behind me, I immediately found myself interested in starting on a new adventure.  Hmmmm, I thought to myself, what’s next, what else new can I try…explore…learn about?  Well, after casting aside potential activities such as hang-gliding and bungee-jumping (I can’t stand heights), and deciding that this new adventure would need to bend to my time frames and span the width and depth of my varied interests, I decided to give blogging a try.  What the heck, I mean, I just spent the last three years writing, writing, and writing.  Why not write for the fun of it, instead of because I have to for a grade?  So, here I sit, writing my first blog post.
What day did I pick to start this adventure – a Friday that I took as a vacation day from work.  Why, you might ask, well because tomorrow is my birthday, and this year I decided to reward myself for being another year older with a “Me” day.  What the heck!  I’ve earned it.  I spent the morning having a wonderful phone conversation with a friend, and another with my Mom. I finally finished up a digital scrapbook of the pictures I took over the holidays, and just generally relaxed…something my dear husband would say is a foreign activity for me.  There will be no cooking for dinner – I’m thinking maybe Chinese take-out and a movie on cable.
Now you might be wondering what this blog is going to be about, and well I don’t really know.  It’s going to be about what life has taught me so far.  About light bulb moments and new ideas.  Its going to be about the good times and the not so good times.  About the little things and the big things.  About what I like and what I truly dislike.  So as I sit here, watching the snow fall outside my window, and wonder what tomorrow will bring, I offer up to you my ramblings at the beginning of a grand new adventure, in this chapter of life.  Enjoy!

Thanks Jill! I’m excited to try this. Any tips or suggestions?

  3. When you write a post, stay true to yourself and you’ll be fine. Visiting and commenting on other blogs is a good way to bring attention to your own. When I first started, I was writing a post everyday, but that pace was difficult to maintain. I have a full time job and I want to work on my book(s) and continue to learn the craft, read for pleasure and have a life! 🙂 Now I post once a week and so far, it’s worked better for me. You’ll meet a lot of great people, so just have fun!
